Osama Bin Loaded
2004-11-08

As we all know by now, drug users are aiding and abetting terrorists in their efforts to topple the USA, destroy Israel, rape our women and eat all the little children. This, at least, is the view of the world promoted by credible institutions such as the DEA, the US Department of State, and some of the media. Paraphernalia did not bother to check Fox on this. We prefer the WWF. It’s less predictable.

And who can say that addiction is a bad thing? The Osama addiction helped further inflate the power of a number of “freedom fried” fighters like John Ashcroft, John Walters (“Flush the Johns” as the Republican would say!) and Tom Ridge.

As per the above mentioned sources, terrorists derive huge profits from trafficking in narcotics. Thus, smoking a joint is helping them. Even paraphernalia cannot dispute the logic that making money the easy way must be helpful to Osama and co. I mean, the honey story was sweet, but it must be hard to sell enough of that stuff to buy bombs (Strangely, paraphernalia notes that there is no war on honey).

While the above argument is undoubtedly beyond logic, there remains, however, a small but yet annoying little fact that throws some shadow over an otherwise pretty solid story.

It may just be possible that illegal drugs are profitable for no other reason than the fact that they are illegal. Production of illicit substances is cheap and very easy (growing pot, poppy or cooking meth is no rocket science, despite the ensuing flying), while selling prices are artificially high solely because of the illicit nature of the whole undertaking. I mean, if High school students in Canada are hired at $20-30 per hour (while flipping burgers gets you $8!) to harvest pot, you know the seller is working on fat margins. As Halliburton knows well, buy cheap and piggyback on the government process is a sure way to make money. If you don’t mind reading for a few hours, the White House will help you figure this out.

In addition to creating the conditions allowing for these profits to be made, the government was actually subsidizing the terrorists. So while poor John Smith of Ohio is now all fretting about Osama and asking his BC Bud dealer to provide certificate of authenticity that his money will not be diverted to a Muslim charity sending honey to Baghdad, the State Department rewarded the freedom loving Taliban with $43 million gift of aid for a Taliban edict banning the cultivation of opium poppies. Now, given that Osama was already carousing flintstones style in the caves of Tora Bora, paraphernalia thought that maybe, just maybe, some of this cash might have been diverted from poppy burning to a somewhat larger demolition project that took place in NYC circa 9/11.

Paraphernalia also wonders if anybody was ever fired over this? Surely, giving US$43 mln to the Taliban should have some negative consequences on someone’s career? If not, it seems only fair that an ordinary drug user be allowed to smoke US$43 mln of the stuff before feeling guilty about anything……
