Is anybody surprised?

CNN International reporter Richard Quest, 45, was arrested in New York City early this morning for meth possession. Richard Quest was discovered in NYC's Central Park and arrested by police for possession of methamphetamine.

The New York Times reported that Quest was in violation of the park curfew when he was approached by police at 3:40 a.m.

As the Police were escorting Quest from the park he admitted to having a small bag of methamphetamine in his possession. During a court arraignment earlier today, Richard Quest agreed to undergo drug counseling and therapy for the next six months in order to avoid jail time and arrest.

Quest's lawyer, Alan M. Abramson, said his client "did not realize the park had a curfew. He was returning to his hotel with friends."

Richard Quest hosts CNN's Business Traveler and Quest for the network and is based in London. CNN had no comment.

Quest joined CNN in 2001 for the launch of Business International. Since this time Richard Quest has covered a variety of different events for CNN, amongst others an analysis of the U.S. elections as American Quest and the start of the circulation of Euro banknotes and coins on 1 January 2002. He has also headed up CNN’s coverage of several events involving the British Royal Family.

In addition to anchoring Business International from London, Quest hosts two monthly programs on CNN International called Business Traveller and Quest. Quest formerly anchored the show CNN Today which is geared towards morning audiences in Europe. Max Foster took his place on CNN Today.

Richard Quest was incorrectly reported to have turned down a job offer from the English-language Al Jazeera channel, on the basis that being Jewish and gay he might not be suitable. But there was never any job offer — the story came about after Quest had joked to friends that his religion would have stopped him getting a job with the company.

It's not yet known how the arrest of Richard Quest with Meth possession will effect his CNN job.
