The great LEAP forward....

Would you like to be able to buy pot, coke, meth, heroin or LSD like you buy booze from a liquor store?

A bunch of ex-cops in an organization called LEAP - Law Enforcement Against Prohibition - say you should be able to. The War on Drugs is a failure, they say - billions spent, thousands jailed, drugs as easy to find as ever.

(Update: ALERT from LEAP - email to me - it's more than ex-cops!)

Kansas native and LEAP director Jack Cole, former New Jersey state trooper and narc, will speak April 2 at UMKC. From LEAP's news release:

Meet and listen to Mr. Cole describe his personal experiences in America’s failed war on drugs; provide facts and figures that the US government and the local and national media ignore or twist; and explain what you, the everyday citizen, can do to correct this colossal waste of human lives and tax payer dollars.
Media ignoring or twisting facts?!?!?! Say it isn't so! LEAP Mission Statement

I plan to go hear Cole at UMKC (1pm Haag Hall Rm 301, 52nd & Rockhill; doors open at noon). Questions:

If drugs are legalized, how will I get past the LSD gumball machine in the liquor store? If I'm feeling tired or blue, will I be tempted to stop by the meth display? What if there's an irresistible special-price deal on heroin?
