A former British banker was jailed for 12 months in Singapore after admitting he consumed cocaine, according to weekend media reports.

Andrew William Veale, 40, was among 14 people charged after police busted an elite cocaine and party-drug ring in October, the Straits Times reported on Saturday.

The Briton had bought the drugs from an "old friend" who was visiting him, his lawyer Peter Fernando told the court.

Veale's girlfriend, Penelope Pang, who took the cocaine with him was jailed for 11 months.
